Jeff Chan is the founder and president of Chan Management Consulting. His aim is to help organizations achieve sustainable improvement through the alignment of strategy, organization, and its people. With over 15 years of consulting experience Jeff Chan has been helping executives, managers, and teams improve business performance through strategic approaches with practical insights. Jeff has held numerous senior level roles in Organization Development, Human Resources, and General Management for companies such as Amoco Corporation and Amoco Chemical, Hewitt Associates, Spiegel, Sears Roebuck, and British Petroleum.

Strategic Planning, Scorecarding, and Building Organizational Capabilities
– Built new organizational capabilities in the areas of supply chain management (sourcing) for a major clothing catalog retailer. This included a redesign of the merchandise sourcing processes and pricing strategies with factories in China, India, Turkey and Thailand. Product development costs were reduced by 20% in the first year through more efficient processes and focused sourcing strategies.
– Utilized Strategic Scorecarding process with major mid-west chemical manufacturer to develop and deploy business and functional strategies. Improved alignment of organization to drive improvements in performance.
– Improved the product design and development capabilities of a catalog retailer through a redesign of their product and catalog development process, reorganization of their organizational structure, and implementation of a new competency model to execute on company’s new market strategy. This reduced the cost infrastructure by 25% and realigned employees to cross-functional business teams to focus on
strategy execution.
– Restructured the European headquarters of a major HR consulting firm as a result of acquisition and integration of an alliance partner. Realigned their organizational structure, processes and people skill set to support their strategy of 30% growth through acquisitions and new customer development.
– Led a logistics benchmarking and redesign effort for a major chemical manufacturer that identified and captured $23 million of logistics optimization opportunities.
– Utilized a Baldrige based quality model to assess a 400 employee unionized refinery. Identified major organizational gaps using the quality model, and developed a quality improvement plan.
– Principal consultant for a $25 million chemical manufacturer acquisition. Led the acquisition team through the integration of the two organizations’ that focused on the unifying strengths while preserving the integrity. The integration process resulted in a doubling of the first several years’ projected net income.
– Led a refinery management and union employee team through a redesign of the refinery planning, control, and optimization processes. Assisted with implementation of the process redesign at two of Amoco’s refineries. As a result of the implementation, the refineries exceeded projected earnings by three times.
Change Management
– Lead change management consultant for Chemical manufacturing strategic initiative to improve reliability and productivity of over 15 chemical plants around the world. Developed strategies to align people management processes to ensure people and organizational factors are supportive of plant reliability goals.
– Provided change management consulting to numerous system implementations that address people and organizational elements that underpin a successful system/technology change.
– Co-developed change management methodology utilized for HR Outsourcing Firm to define, implement, and manage change which resulted in a dramatic improvement in the success rate of internal change initiatives.
– Lead change management consultant for implementation of metric and process reengineering strategy for Human Resource Outsourcing Firm. Implemented balanced scorecard of metrics that focused on optimizing cost, delivery and quality of services. Reengineered core outsourcing processes to ensure alignment with overall cost and quality goals.
Talent Management
– Developed strategic staffing model for a major chemical manufacturer that included succession planning, leadership development, and career development.
– Redesigned the performance management system for chemical manufacturer that links employee contribution and development to the strategic goals of the company utilizing a balanced scorecard strategy and approach. Developed and implemented a career management process for chemical manufacturer which links individual career development and management to the strategic needs of the company.
– Development and facilitation of a mid-level management development training program which redefined the roles and responsibilities of supervisors, and positions teams and workgroups to support World Class Manufacturing.
Jeff has a Masters degree in Labor and Industrial Relations with an emphasis in Organization Development from Michigan State University. Jeff has served as a Baldrige senior examiner for the state of Illinois’ program – Lincoln Foundation for Excellence. Jeff is certified in; Bridges Transition Management, LaMarsh ChangeMaster, Team Management Systems, Life Orientations (LIFO) personality styles, and Strategic Decisions Group – Strategic Planning.
